Do You Know Anyone With Breast Cancer? Have You Had It Yourself?

Postby Jamiel » Mon Apr 17, 2017 12:06 am

I have breast cancer for the second time. I am now 43. The first time I was diagnosed in the opposite breast at age 36. I was just tested as BRCA1+.
Triple negative both times.

My mom died from this disease at age 40 and her mother died from ovarian cancer at age 56 (which the BRCA1 gene mutation shows a connection, possibly a progression of the disease from the breast to the ovaries). My mom's cousin also had breast cancer in her 50s. She is doing well as far as I know.

My first dx was stage I. This time I am stage IV with mets to the lungs.

My mother in law was diagnosed 3 years ago. Luckily her's did not sp read so the tumor was removed from her breasts. She did go through radiation to make sure. Three years later she's doing great and cancer free!

Do You Know Anyone With Breast Cancer? Have You Had It Yourself?

My daughter-in-law was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer when she was 41 years old, and given six months to live.
Inflammatory breast cancer is very aggressive, the worst kind.
Yvonne was a nurse, and even tho she got a diagnosis quickly, the cancer had already spread to her liver.
From there to her brain.
She lived four years, and died last November, leaving our son and three lovely children.
Inflammatory breast cancer does NOT present with a lump, but as a sore on the outside of the breast.
It is rare, but deadly.
During her last year the cancer spread to Yvonne's spine.
Her liver finally just shut down.
It is all so very sad.

Just like Inverse - yes, yes, 50, no

Like other cancers, breast cancer that runs in the family is rare - only 5 - 10% of all cases are hereditary.

Do You Know Anyone With Breast Cancer? Have You Had It Yourself?

Postby Mikhos » Mon Apr 17, 2017 12:21 am

I had breast cancer last year when i was 26 years old.
It was such a shock to me and my entire family because cancer does not run in my family.
I am the only one to ever get the disease.
I was of course completely devasted when the doctor told me the news.
I never heard of anyone as young as i am getting this disease.

And unfornately i had the worse kind "Triple Negative" which is a very rare and aggresive form of breast cancer that is difficult to treat, only chemotherapy and radiation will cure it.

I took the BRCA1&2 gene test and i also took another test called BART and i tested negative for all 3 so cancer doesn't run in my family.
Although the doctors say that i am cancer free now, i still live in fear of recurrence everyday.

EDIT: I learned that i had breast cancer by doing monthly breast exams.
