Calficied Granuloma In Liver

Postby chozai39 » Sun Jun 12, 2016 11:33 pm

Dear Doctor,

my son(7,5 years old) had calficied granuloma in his liver,

is it dangerous for his age ?

can it cause tumor or cancer ?

thankyou for your kind answers.

ANSWER: Calcified granuloma is a benign finding. It is not dangerous nor does it cause anything to happen.

It is a result of some prior event in that spot such as prior inflammation, infection or perhaps something that happened before delivery.  This is not at all a worrisome finding.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delay in reply.

thankyou very much doctor,

i'm very worried, because the doctor said he has to do USG Doppler.

And CT scan and biopsy.

And doctor wrote diagnosis : liver cancer or bile duct intrahepatic.

is the liver cancer look alike with calficied granuloma ?

and what is the connection calficied granuloma with bile duct intrahepatic ?

why my son has to recheck with usg doppler ?

thankyou for your kind answers.

Calficied Granuloma In Liver

Dear Bertha,

This gets more complicated because if it is a truly calcified granuloma that it is benign and a result of something non specific as I mentioned before.

However, if your doctors see that as a calcification as a part of some other process then I can't say much more as I am not looking at the pictures - which is where the answer lies.

I am a bit surprised that that's what is written. From your question, it seems like a radiologist didn't think there was anything worrisome.

We certainly do not want to miss any significant process. However, I feel(from a limited information given by you) that there is some discordance between what radiology report stated and your doctors impression.  I would advise you to discuss ALL and MANY questions that you may have with your doctor before the biopsy.  One very helpful thing to do is to make sure that your doctor will speak to a radiologist directly and not just read his/her report.  Involve as many docs as you can to make this final decision on what and how and why.  US may be useful as well prior to any biopsy to see a liver in a different way.
