beating lung cancer, as w/any cancer, depends on the stage and prognosis of the disease.
in some cases of lung cancer, they can remove the lung or tumor.
chemo and radiation can both reduce the growth and prolong life.

in the end you have to consider the age of the person and the quality of life they wish to have.

www.cancer.org or 1.800.ACS.2345 is a great source for questions.

It depends on how you define success.
My cousin was a smoker and had lung cancer.
He had two courses of Chemo, and the first time, the doctor said it was not very successful, and my cousin later had a lobe of his lung removed.
A couple years later, after he finally stopped smoking, he got another round.
This time, although the cancer didn't go away, the doctor said that it had slowed the progression of the cancer.
My cousin died a year and a half later.
So I suppose slowing progression can be considered a success.
